This is an attempt to get more people online at the same time to hang out and practice ASL! The idea is to organize enough that anytime after 5:00 PM Eastern Time, there will be plenty of signers of varying skill levels online and everyone can get practice in, or just hang out and make friends!

Hey all, I'm Brie, 32f, from right outside Nashville, TN. I am teaching myself ASL via online classes, books and youtube channels because I have a degenerative hearing loss disorder and I want to have resources for once I can't hear anymore. I don't know any deaf or HoH folks so I'd love to have a practice partner. Thanks y'all!

I have to chat with someone who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing via video chat. The paper is due June 11. Is anyone interested or willing to me with me via Video chat at some point? Thanks, Sarah Perle

Hello everyone! It's nice to meet you all. My name is Michelle and I am currently part of ASL club at my university. Though I have little to no experience, I've always found the language very interesting and engaging. I hope to make new friends and improve my ASL proficiency, so please be patient with me!

Like the title says my name is Alan, signed up for this site because I have recently found a passion for languages. I took some Spanish in middle school and I always dreaded it. Since then I have fumbled my way around trying to teach myself several languages including Swedish, French, Nepali, Japanese (not sure if I'll keep up with this one), abit of Sign Language and Braille. I am by no means fluent any of them but would love to push myself to learn even more. I would say I am very much a beginner with signing. I know the alphabet and numbers to 100 but am pretty slow. I know a handful of colors and other random words. If you would like to learn with me that would be awesome.

Hello. I'm Raven I've been teaching myself ASL like my whole life as well. My goal (as everyone else's) is to be fluent in ASL. So I can become a medical interpreter one day. I desperately need practice partners and someone to help me with sentence structures and grammar.

Hi there Alex. Absolutely, getting to actually practice conversational sign rather than just by Youtube would be great. I'd love to see if we can setup a video chat sometime. and same for you, Lauren and Aspenlea. I don't have a Zoom just yet, but got an old Skype account if those platforms are better than the video chat on the site. Let me know your guys' thoughts, and nice to meet you!

I have the main reason why I use ASL. I was born Deaf. I started learning and communicating through ASL. It helps me view and express my knowledge, thoughts, and feelings in ASL. These are reasons why I use ASL.

Hi, It's not a poem or a song, but I figured that my post belonged in this creative section. I thought users might be interested in a simple Happy Birthday ecard that I have animated using ASL. If it is well received, I hope to do more in the future. Here's a link: https://www.123greetings.com/birthday/happy_birthday/signing_birthday_bear.html I hope you like it.

Hi Nana, I just registered with this site and noticed your post almost immediately. I suck at numbers too! I can sign them (I think... ish...) but I panic when I see someone sign them ("F...oh no that was a 9... and now I've missed the rest of them"). So yeah, I need practice. Not sure how that works on this site, do we use the chat rooms? I just tried that Record Video button and got you eight seconds of black screen so that'll need work 🙂

After speaking with deaf ppl on Facebook, decided itd be a bad idea to have a deaf character without spending a lot of time talking to deaf ppl first. Idk how to delete threads, but yeah, ignore this!

I've noticed there's an increasing amount of people attempting to use the chat rooms on the website to practice. I'm here to possibly discuss a solution. If people read this, we could arrange to have people congregate to the chatroom at around 9 pm EST two days a week. At this time most people would be off work and have a little bit of free time. My suggestion is everyone tries to hop on around 9 pm EST either every Friday (as per the calendar) or every Wednesday and Saturday, where people get two opportunities per week to meet others. What do you guys think? I try to check the chat every other day at around 8 pm EST. My ultimate suggestion is 9 pm EST on Friday. What do you guys think?

Hello, everyone. It's difficult to be online at the same time as everyone in order to reply, or find people to sign with, so I have created a discord. You can get the discord app on your phone, and it gives you notifications as if it were a text when someone talks in the server. You can video chat with ease, and meet new people who want to sign with you, and you can use it on your computer, too. Discord is free for everyone, so please, come join and start signing easier! Just click the link below to start! Please DM me if you have questions. https://discord.gg/YwnPRHQ

I use the first version. The second version looks like it might actually come from hearing people. It's a thing we do when we're hoping for something. Usually accompanied with someone saying something like, "Fingers crossed, I hope I get that job."
