This is an attempt to get more people online at the same time to hang out and practice ASL! The idea is to organize enough that anytime after 5:00 PM Eastern Time, there will be plenty of signers of varying skill levels online and everyone can get practice in, or just hang out and make friends!

I was born deaf. And I have been searching for a website to allow me to make new friends that use ASL or I can teach someone ASL.. I have just found this website so I decided to try it out!

I think it would be a really great feature to have some type of notification be able to go out to those who request it that notifies them when someone has created/joined a room and are looking for others to sign with. The video chat feature is really great if you know that others are on. The problem with the iteration that it is now is that people need to know that there are people available to sign with and the current system requires a bit of fate or planning to ensure that you are in the lobby at the same time. Could you look into creating a system whereby a text or email notification is sent out to those that subscribe so that they will be notified when someone is looking for others to sign with.

Wow, 40 an hour? That seems really pricey when most of these fine folks do it for free...

Hello! My name is Claire and I am in ASL 4 right now learning at community college and am planning on getting my bachelor's degree in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies! I want to become an ASL interpreter in the future. I want to be able to get better at signing with people (especially fluent signers or almost fluent). Because of the coronavirus, my school got closed down and no longer have any way to communicate face to face with anyone but would LOVE to chat online with signers. Please let me know if you're interested.

Hey There! I'm Nick, I'm 24 and live in Washington D.C. I haven't had much practice with sign language but I've enjoyed learning about it and learning new signs for a long time. I'd like to get more involved with it but I don't know anyone else who knows sign language or is interested in learning (so sad). If you want to sign, I'll try to login regularly and we can chat and help each other learn!

Hi all, I would like to practice asl more, but unfortunately I don’t have any friends that sign or are learning to sign. I know a lot of random vocabulary but I struggle with conversations because anything we did in class was scripted (because that’s helpful for the real world -_-). Overall, I’d say I’m probably intermediate. Anyone is welcome to add me on Glide, my username is itskait

Hi, It's not a poem or a song, but I figured that my post belonged in this creative section. I thought users might be interested in a simple Happy Birthday ecard that I have animated using ASL. If it is well received, I hope to do more in the future. Here's a link: https://www.123greetings.com/birthday/happy_birthday/signing_birthday_bear.html I hope you like it.

Hi Nana, I just registered with this site and noticed your post almost immediately. I suck at numbers too! I can sign them (I think... ish...) but I panic when I see someone sign them ("F...oh no that was a 9... and now I've missed the rest of them"). So yeah, I need practice. Not sure how that works on this site, do we use the chat rooms? I just tried that Record Video button and got you eight seconds of black screen so that'll need work 🙂

After speaking with deaf ppl on Facebook, decided itd be a bad idea to have a deaf character without spending a lot of time talking to deaf ppl first. Idk how to delete threads, but yeah, ignore this!

I've noticed there's an increasing amount of people attempting to use the chat rooms on the website to practice. I'm here to possibly discuss a solution. If people read this, we could arrange to have people congregate to the chatroom at around 9 pm EST two days a week. At this time most people would be off work and have a little bit of free time. My suggestion is everyone tries to hop on around 9 pm EST either every Friday (as per the calendar) or every Wednesday and Saturday, where people get two opportunities per week to meet others. What do you guys think? I try to check the chat every other day at around 8 pm EST. My ultimate suggestion is 9 pm EST on Friday. What do you guys think?

In all honesty, sign language has been a passion of mine since i can remember, maybe around the age of 10, my grandmother was deaf, and my mother is deaf in one ear, and then down to me, i cant tell if its hereditary in my family or not lol, but i started learning from my grandmother before she died. Whenever i would see her use sign language to someone it just seemed so personal, and unique to her. i could see all her emotions as she felt them when she signed. you could see happiness when she was happy and fury when she was angry, it seems way more expressive and you can see how someone is feeling to the tee. its just beautiful, it just made me want to learn it more. as i got older i never seen anyone ever use sign language and it became hard for me to communicate with other people and them me because no one knew the language and didnt bother to try to learn it to talk to me. i had a hard time getting by in school and even as i came into my adult years, the fact that there is no one around that knows it makes me what to learn it more because its different and its a silent and graceful language just as i am, so not only am i learning for communication purposes but also because i want people to see the beauty in it and how more expressive we can be with this language.

Hi, I'm Heather and I'm a beginning to intermediate signer. At Cal State I took 3 levels of ASL and I'm still learning. I enjoy signing to songs especially worship and Christian rock pieces. I'm very happy to be here and am looking to expand my knowledge of ASL.

Hello everyone! My name is Michael and I’m currently a senior at UNCW in North Carolina. I have been learning ASL for quite a bit and would love to expand my knowledge and learn more about the language and the culture as well! This Fall I will graduate with a Bachelor’s in Music Technology, but will begin to partake in an interpreting program at the time I will finish my Bachelor’s. I have this motivational drive to improve and what more than to do that on here! It’s great to meet you all! 😄

I use the first version. The second version looks like it might actually come from hearing people. It's a thing we do when we're hoping for something. Usually accompanied with someone saying something like, "Fingers crossed, I hope I get that job."

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that might be the sign for PHARMACY. You signed MEDICINE + STORE. So I'm guessing that means PHARMACY. I don't know the context of the conversation. But that would be my guess.
