  1. Hello, my name is Kleen, I am 23. I have two semesters left of my community college to receive my French Associate of Arts undergraduate degree in 2022. I study many languages including French (obviously), ASL, Japanese, Korean and am starting Mandarin this coming fall 2021. Languages are something I enjoy, including their cultures and would like to incorporate them into my life by finding friendships and partnerships with people alike. I am, in a way, desperate for a person near my age or a group who are open to helping each other with improving our signing since I am unable to find local gigs to meet people with the same interest. My ASL is still very basic and I have the most issue with forming sentences (verb, subject, adjective...what goes where) As friends, your job isn't to teach me, but to aid our development while enjoying the company of another. As learning partners, we may make mistakes as we improve our skills, but at least we can learn from it and move forward. I have Telegram amd Skype which works wonderfully with ASL chats.
  2. Hiya! My name is Madeleine, but you can call me Em. I use they/them pronouns! I'm a PhD student studying engineering education, and I'm neurodivergent (ADHD/ASD). I'm hearing, and I'm interested in learning ASL for a lot of different reasons. First, my research is very focused on inclusion and diversity. I believe that a big part of inclusion is for people to be able to have access to what they need. Language is a big part of that, and ASL is a language that is not widely used when it ought to be. I also want to learn it because it is very kinesthetic, which is a big part of how I learn. I like to actively do learning rather than passively absorbing rote information. Also, I am autistic, which means that overwhelming situations can make it difficult for me to communicate sometimes. ASL provides another avenue of communication for me if and when I become too overstimulated to verbally communicate my needs. I'm here to engage with the ASL teaching/learning community as a way to practice my ASL skills, get better at conversational language, and to educate myself on other types of disability activism that can overlap with the ASL community. Feel free to reach out if you want an accountability/study partner! Cheers, Em
  3. Hi! I go by Pali or Palico. I'm HoH and have selective mutism so I'm trying to learn ASL to make it easier for me to communicate and understand others. Due to personal reasons, I wasn't able to learn until now so at this point I'm a beginner. Language learning is also a hobby of mine! I've been slowly trying to learn Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and German as well as ASL. Right now my main focus is on learning ASL and Japanese. I love playing video games with friends, listening to/making music, knitting/crocheting, reading, and a lot more. I spend most of my time chatting with friends on Discord though. It's always been my dream to either be a forensic scientist and/or to become an interpreter (which plays into my love of learning languages!)
  4. Hello, my name is Nick. Hopefully I signed all of that correctly. I am looking for people to practice with regularly and I want to learn more. I took ASL1 about 2 years ago and enjoyed it. If anyone wants to video chat and practice let me know thanks!
  5. Hi Everyone, I'm a teacher dealing with changing times, so I figured I would take ASL (something I always wanted to do). I took Sign 101 in college and it was horrible. Terrible teacher. I'm pretty much teaching myself. It's hard being the student and not the teacher. 😔
  6. Evan

    Hi!

Hi I'm Evan, he/him! I'm hearing and currently learning asl though I am not very good at it yet. I have autism spectrum disorder (asd) and light audio processing problems. If you wanna chat with me I'm on discord @ SunPrince #3577 sign language intro!!
  7. Hello everyone! I’m in an ASL 1 class at my school, but because of the recent pandemic, I haven’t been able to practice signing. If anyone would be interested in practicing, I would be glad to talk with you! I am a beginner (I know my alphabet and most numbers as well as other signs that don’t involve finger spelling), so please be patient with me. Also, here’s a few facts about me! 1. I have 3 cats! 2. I am autistic and proud! 3. I was nonverbal for a long time, so I used sign language to communicate until I was 4 years old. 4. I love to draw, sing, write— I’m basically just really artsy. Thanks for reading my introduction, I hope to meet some lovely people soon!
  8. Hello everyone, I'm Rj I hope your all doing amazing! I'm here to genuinely relearn Sign as its been many years without Signing I've lost quite a bit of knowledge. I'll Pick up fast, I'm going to be practicing with my mother Tammy she is half deaf and also hard of hearing on her right side. I was deaf for a few years because of a bad doctor and a horrible allergic reaction to a medication called "Gantrisin" which caused tissue damage and ruptured both my eardrums. After some surgeries and tubes I eventually regained my hearing and subsequently forgot much of what I once knew. I really have a soft spot for the deaf and hard of hearing community. Our family is a military family so we moved a lot, and I've lost touch with those I used to be close with that could Sign. I really would like to become fully fluent so I will hopefully be able to help others, meet new friends, or do some translating, I just hope to help and be happy make others happy as well. Peace
  9. Hi I’m looking for a friend who knows or is learning asl to sign with. I have taken asl 1 and 2, and I’m currently working on asl 3.
  10. Hello, Community! I'm excited to be on board in this space and looking forward to what I hope will be lots of growing and learning to enhance my ability to communicate with Deaf community. I'm a 39yo, Queer, Latinx based mostly out of Las Vegas but travel all across the country a lot for work. I recently met someone that I very much want to develop a relationship with and is Deaf. I will have a chance to be with her again at the end of August and am hopeful to be able to carry on at least a 30 minute, enjoyable (to her) visit with her and without an interpreter by then. Thank yall very much for this practice space. In Solidarity, -Veronica
  11. Hello to all, My name is Clentonia Vann, sign name CV. I am a taking ASL 103 through Eastern Washington and I've really enjoyed learning the language. This will be the last class for ASL and I need to continue using what I have learning or I fear I will lose it. I'm looking forward to meeting new people, using what I have learned and learning more about the Deaf Culture.
  12. Hi! My name is Aaron Jacob (but most people call me A.J.) and I am a beginner ASL signer. I have been taking classes for about three months now and am looking forward to learning more.
