  1. My name is Destiny, and I'm new here! I know extremely little ASL at the moment (I sometimes mess up parts of the alphabet, embarrassingly...), but I know a few signs. I am not deaf, but I am hard of hearing, and due to PTSD there are times when I become effectively mute. So, other than thinking it would be cool to learn an awesome life skill/new language, I think it would really benefit me on a personal level to learn ASL. Plus, it could help me make so many wonderful new friends! I hope that it's alright that I join you all here. Much love. ♥ ~Destiny
  2. Hello! My name is Mikaela and I am a freshman in college. I have been signing for 4 year now and have a passion for the culture and language. As I am in college now studying social work, I am not able/don't have the time to study ASL also. I really want to keep my asl and use it for my career but I have no one I can sing with. Thats why I am here! Im looking for people to have a ASL connection with and to basically only sign to each other. Id love to get two know you, become friends, and grow our passion our ASL together! P.S. I am also a ASL tutor so if you need help, I am here
  3. Hi my name is David I am hard of hearing I know a little sign language but wish to learn more.
  4. I am in ASL 2 at my college and have been wanting to get much better at asl. I do my best to study but it would be some much easier if i had someone to talk to who knew ASL fluently. I severely lack in facial expressions only because i feel like i look ridiculous. I would love if anyone here would want to help me out with going over my lessons and sentence sturggure, oh lord i need help with sentence structure 😅 Thank you for your time!
  5. Hello!! I'm Katie! A long time ago, may be three years ago, I was involved in an interpreting program. But I realized that the program was not a good fit for me personally. I stepped down, transferred schools, and I actually just graduated from the University of Redlands in California. Now I want more practice with sign because my skills have suffered a lot from not practicing; it has been a long time since I've signed with anyone who also knows ASL. So I'm really excited to meet ASL students, Deaf, and other members of the signing community. Thanks!!

Hello, everyone! My name is Emma. I'm a Hearing college student living in Southern California, in my third year of studying American Sign Language and Deaf Culture. My interest in ASL and Deaf Culture began with a childhood fascination with Hellen Keller and her incredible life story. Though I was raised in a Hearing family, when I was very young my mother taught me to fingerspell and the ASL signs for the primary colors. However, she never extended my education further, and I eventually lost interest. Once I hit college, I was unsure about what I wanted to do and took ASL 1 to satisfy a humanities requirement for my General Education. My Deaf professor, Jamie, helped me to completely fall in love with the language; I came home raving about how beautiful and fun ASL was to learn and my parents encouraged me to do some research into careers in ASL. As soon as I realized I could major in it and make it a career by becoming an interpreter, I never looked back. Today, I am preparing to apply to transfer to California State University, Northridge to obtain my Bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies, with a concentration in ASL-English Interpretation. I also plan to become certified with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. My eventual career goals are to work with Deaf children in mainstream schools or in hospitals. I truly believe that the number of interpreters available in health care and educational institutions in the United States is woefully low, and while I may not be able to change the world, I can definitely change the lives of the people I work with. I look forward to getting to know more of you in this community and learning more about Deaf Culture!
  7. Hi everyone! I'm a new member. I've checked out this place, and it's awesome! I tried to upload a picture but, there to big lol. I'll keep trying. Anyway, I know some ASL. Pretty vague huh, my apologies. Long story short, there was a accident I lost me long term memory, and my short term is iffy. There is a but in there I promise lol. I use to know ASL. For some reason I am connecting with signing. I mean I understand it for the most part. I want to continue at it. I'm hard of hearing and I have Minerese Disease. I'm open to making some friends and chatting. Please know I'm a very patient person, hope you are. Thanks for reading and hope to get some replies. EM 😊
  8. Hello! My name is Andy, and I've been looking for a website where I could connect with more people who sign and/or deaf people! I'm fifteen years old and have been practicing sign since I was ten. I want to be an interpreter in the medical field, and have always wanted to be some sort of interpreter. I have two dogs, one is a Shiba Inu named Gracie, and one is a mutt named Elvis. I currently live in Central PA, and would love to get to know some people in this community. I'm the youngest of three boys, and the only one who knows ASL in my family. Please feel free to text me!

  10. My name is Hally and I am a student at the University of Kansas studying to be an american sign language interpreter. I have recently finished ASL 2 and would love to practice signing with signers more advanced than I to learn and improve my skills as well as make friends and become involved in the deaf community! If you're interesting in chatting please feel free to say hi :)
  11. Hi all, I'm 58 and just started learning ASL this year. I hoping to prove that you can teach an old guy new tricks. I would love someone to practice signing with one or more people who also would like to practice. Please let me know if you are interested.

  13. Hello to everyone!, I am Robert Buenning from Arkansas. Here learning ASL due to the fact of having Meniere's Syndrome. I can still hear, but I felt the need to start learning ASL just in case My hearing goes bad. So I am here to make friends, learn, and laugh with each of you. I am a beginner, but I am looking forward to getting better. I ask you to bare with my awkward signing as I improve, and make new friends.
  14. Hi! I'm looking to practice ASL. I am hearing and this is my first semester taking ASL. I am a Music Therapy major, though I am considering being an ASL translator on the side. ASL is my "10,000 hours", so I plan on practicing as much as I can. I'll be here occasionally just sitting in a chat room and anyone can join while I'm here! I live in California, so I'm on Pacific time. Don't be afraid to jump in if you see me!
  15. Hello everyone, I'm going to try this website as a way of learning some ASL for mascot use. I know sounds weird right?! Here's the story- I am sometimes the mascot for my company. The mascot is not allowed to talk, has limitations in mobility (no dunks for this guy), a head that is formed (no movement) and 4 fingered hands. I try to be as expressive as I can with what I've got- hands on cheeks to be shocked, hands on mouth to be surprised, blow kisses, grab the eyeballs high above my head to "hide" them, and lots of dancing. Then the idea occurred to me that I may be able to incorporate some ASL. Downside to this plan- 4 fingers and dexterity is limited. So any positive, encouraging, exciting mascot like language I could use but more of a hand movement. Sorry... this is difficult to explain, but I have the best of intentions.
