Best online dictionary that includes finger spelling the word

Recommended Posts

Hi!  My name is Nancy, and I’m new to this site, and hoping there might be some good advice here.  I learned finger spelling in ASL as I was growing up from a school friend who was patient enough to teach me.  Recently I was looking up the meaning of the word online, and somehow I found a great online dictionary that included pronunciation, meanings, alternate spellings and the ASL finger spelling of it at the bottom.  It was phenomenal, but I cannot find it now, after multiple searches.  I know it exists...just can’t find it again, argh.  I’ve worked in health care (as a nursing assistant, and a nurse) and have found ASL invaluable...so glad I learned at least the finger spelling level.  It has been invaluable. If I could find that dictionary again, I think there is interest for a lot of people who may not have been as lucky as I was to have learned it in childhood.  That dictionary I felt also raised awareness of the need to be open to learning this level.  I wish all dictionaries were so thoughtful!  Now that I’ve searched for this particular dictionary, I sadly see that is not the case.  Has anyone got an idea about this dictionary resource?  If so, I would so appreciate a link.  Thank you so much.

    • Dear  for the  Deaf
    • Hi!  I live in Jasper, Alabama and I am a preacher wanting to work in deaf ministry.  I myself am hard of hearing and am progressively going deaf.  I grew up with neighbors who were deaf and taught me to sign a little, then my cousin moved back home from Talladega School for the deaf and she helped me, but I left it for a long time.  I have been studying for a year now and I desperately need someone to video chat with so that I can go further.  I look forward to talking to you all, thank you.
    • I've been learning on my own for a few months as work permits....stopped for awhile, and back at it now with determination to complete ASL3 this year...I'm currently finishing Unit 2 of ASL 1. :)  Mostly using ASLTC and supporting with handpseak and signingsavvy. Following HandsUpSD, ASLStore, and DeafiningASL on Insta. Super lucky to have met an Auslan interpreter online who is now learning ASL (and already streets ahead of me!), so I get some practice and tips from her. Have a great day everyone!
    • Alternatively, it seems as if we could send videos back and forth on this platform. i've done that before with an app called Marco Polo as well. You can find me on there @kylbrdfrd
