Introduction: Brandi

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! My name is Brandi. I've been interpreting just short of 10 years. I hold state and national certification. I work in the St. Louis metro area. I've worked in almost every setting you can imagine, with the exception of VRS or VRI.  Currently I am a staff interpreter for a large hospital system. I received my Associates and Bachelor degrees in Sign Language. I learned the alphabet and how to sign Jingle Bell Rock when I was in 6th grade. I always remembered those signs. After working for the government for about 4 years doing accounting, I realized I wasn't happy. This led me to get a catalog for the local community college. There it was! A degree in sign language. One class and I was hooked.

I love seeing all the people on this page trying to learn sign language. My biggest piece of advice is to find a Deaf friend/ mentor. There is nothing that compares to learning from a native user.

Feel free to reach out with any questions! I look forward to meeting many of you.

    • HELLO EVERYONE! My name is ADRIANA & I am 28 from ONTARIO CANADA. I'm 100% HEARING & I've been SELF-TAUGHT asl for almost 10+ years. I fell in love with ASL after seeing it on a few old tv shows which have now been sadly cancelled & taken off the tv :'(
I don't use ASL as much as I would like, there aren't too many online chat sites for ASL, but I'm hoping to meet some people on here practice my signing & make a few friends
    • Hi guys! My name is Maggie and I'm currently starting my 4th semester of ASL and finishing up my associates degree in it! I too need to keep up with signing, and expand my knowledge by signing with more people! I still feel like my signing is pretty basic, but I will slow down if needed. You can email me at: [email protected] , and maybe we can all accommodate a time every week to chat and practice for a little while? Let me know what you think!
    • Hello @Lysandor - so sorry for the (very!) long delay in getting back to you. The idea is that you can record anything that you like by video using ASL and you can ask for feedback and comments if you wish.  We thought it may be useful for those who are learning BSL to have somewhere that they can practice using ASL without it being too specific on topic.
