Learning sign for my nonverbal son

Hi there,

I have a special needs son who is 8 and is mentally about the age of a 4 year old. We've know he has hearing loss since he was about 8 months old and so we started signing with him. In the last couple years his signing has come a long way thanks to signing videos and his need and want to communicate. He can hear at 40% in his left ear and a little better in his right so we definitely still verbalize everything while we are signing. The signing we are doing is more for main ideas but not so much sentences. I signed up here hoping I could get some advice and help with signs.

There are a few youtube channels that are more obscure that can help, especially "Read with ASL" google it with the word youtube appended.  Others are at a more intermediate level, like "IntermediateASL", "ASLInteractive", and of course Bill Vicars.  Talk to Deaf people in your city for both advice and connections.  Go to your community college and ask to talk to an ASL teacher, and tell them about everything.  Find a Deaf club/group in your city, but in-person is much better, especially if they can interact with him directly and they can certainly direct you better.  If there is a Deaf school nearby, stop in and talk to everyone there, basically let Deaf guide you~

    • When searching for a good calculator app, specifically one that can handle calculations like the pythagorean theorem calculator angle https://calculatorprofessional.com/pythagorean-theorem-calculator, look for apps with high user ratings and robust features. Read reviews to see if other users mention its accuracy and usability for trigonometric calculations. This approach will help you find a reliable and user-friendly Pythagorean theorem calculator for angles.
    • Hi! I just started ASL today with great interest. As of now, I only know the basics including the alphabets, numbers 1-20, a few colors, and pronouns. Although I will only be learning on my free time, I still hope that I will be able to make friends here and learn together with them! 💙
