Why I'm Learning ASL

Recommended Posts

I am currently studying Psychology and plan to eventually get my masters in it; along with that, I am getting a bachelors in Social Work. I've always had a passion and extreme love for American Sign Language and have always wanted to be fluent. I am working towards a minor in ASL so that while practicing Psychology I make a difference and can make Psychology services more available to the deaf community. I also work in a place where deaf people often come in and would like to be able to help them without them having to struggle to lip read and get frustrated when others cannot figure out what they are trying to communicate. I have an extreme respect for the deaf community as I grew up with HOH friends and a mother who taught me my ASL alphabet very young so I could communicate with her at my concerts from the stands.
