  3. Need Practice!

Hi, I'm learning BSL through online courses & youtube (not formally). I started to lose my hearing in my mid-20s, but had a significant dip 18 months ago at 36 with severe bilateral loss. My family & friends are all hearing and I work in a hearing job, so I'm struggling to practice enough BSL to communicate effectively - right now, it's more SSE. With another dip in my hearing recently, I'm determined to crack this and would love to find some people to sign with.

  9. Recording Video

Over the past few days we have upgraded the video recording software used on this site. Video recording should now be a smooth process and can be used on desktop and mobile devices. To record a video in a post just press the red button below the text input box when you are creating a topic or replying to a post.

  11. As far as i have learned (which is very little so far) you just need the basic gestures. so work can be found here http://www.signbsl.com/sign/work ambulance here http://www.signbsl.com/sign/ambulance and service here http://www.signbsl.com/sign/service you would have to start with "I" which is as simple as pointing to yourself. Hope this helps pd
  12. Hi, Can anyone help me to sign the phrase 'I work for the ambulance service please? I'm putting a presentation together and to be able to sign this phrase would be very beneficial. Many thanks in advanced

  19. I am currently carrying out research around this area. It would make a big difference if people could take their time to fill out this questionnaire after reading the consent form. I am teacher in training, currently writing a report on 'how can we implement sign language into mainstream school to promote inclusion'. parent questionaire.docx online consent letter.docx
  20. Deaf Identity

Hi All, My name is Natasha and I am a deaf student at Durham University, studying Anthropology. From my experiences of deafness I have decided to take the opportunity to base my final year dissertation on social and medical perceptions on deafness, cochlear implantation and genetic testing. For this, I am hoping to gain input from other deaf people as well as from hearing people with relationships with deaf people (e.g. hearing parents of deaf children or hearing children of deaf adults). I am hoping to hear views from a range of deaf people, regardless of cochlear implantation, sign language use or deaf identity. I am posting here as I very much hope some of you might be able to assist me in collecting information. I have produced a short online questionnaire, which is easily accessible and should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. All information will be kept completely anonymous and no identifying information will be published. I would really appreciate it if people would fill in the questionnaire. This is the link to the questionnaire (Google Forms): https://goo.gl/forms/hwlqQ3PQOVEFxu7O2 With very many thanks, Natasha

I am the only person in the uk doing handstamped bsl jewellery (i had to get the font set custom made and currently no one else does it) Thanks Sarah

  26. Mental Health-related signs

Ok, thank you. I suppose if you're talking about being diagnosed with something you could also spell it as you sign the symptoms. Then if you're talking to a friend and the term comes up a lot you could create a sign for it as one would a name. (or use the guide you so kindly attached) Thank you very much.
  27. BSL Games

So sorry for the late reply, my class loved them, we had a few games the first week back to get them in the swing again. If you have anymore ideas that would be great ☺
  28. Funds are hard, but if you really want to progress, I believe it's the only way. You are investing in yourself and may wish to take things further in the future. I'm currently on level 2. Yes, it's tough raising the money, but I believe in the long term, worth it. When you get to level 2, you then really need to go to deaf clubs...it's a large jump in knowledge from level 1 to 2. Online is cheaper, but working with other people including deaf people starting BSL, is the best way to improve...and you meet many lovely people to work with to help you improve. Hope some of this helps. Is there a deaf School nearby running a course?
