  1. Hi Members! My name is Victoria although everyone calls me Vicky which I do prefer, I actually live in Malta but originally from Kent, Sign Language is something I been wanting to do a while now and knew a few basic words but wanted to extend it more purely for my career. I manage a tourist attraction where we welcome people from all over the world and we have many staff members to cater for the vast amount of languages but I really wanted to be able to cater for the deaf, I can imagine it being frustrating for them and sometimes they may not be able to get the full benefit of a visit to somewhere so my aim is to be able to do guided visits in sign language. Good Luck to everyone studying this course, stay safe!

  2. I'm the same, just finished assessment 3! I've taken notes on how to do the signs but also just done a list of words or phrases without the description so I can test myself. Starting at the beginning so the oldest stuff I learnt so I can commit it to memory I've just logged onto this public forum now so happy to video chat with you during this lockdown (arrgg) whenever to practice as we are at the same stage

  3. Hello everyone, I though I would share a tip that I have been doing to help learn the signs that some of you may want to use also if you wish. I have taken the time to write down the words on small pieces of paper, folded them up and placed them in a container. I then mixed them up and one by one take them out and do the sign, if I can remember of course. This also gives the chance for a family member or partner to also pick them out and test you. I also keep the signs up on the computer/phone to go back to if I can't remember the sign. I hope this helps anyone if they're looking for new ways to learn. Thank you, stay safe. Alice x

  4. I’m also a newbie and it’s a work in progress but: A and U are easy as first and last. E: i’m righthanded so the “letters” are on my left hand. If you look at your left hand the three middle fingers look like an E on its back, so the index finger is the top of the letter E. I: the longest middle finger. Also - random fact that reminds me: i used to live in Italy where I was startled to find that certain letters are not used except in foreign words: letters j, k, y, and a few others were not even included in the Italian alphabet. There isn’t a natural sound that means J, they call it “Long I” because it’s like an I with a tail. The same is true in Sign: J is drawing along the middle finger and round to the thumb. So I is like short J! And as for O, that one’s easy: it’s the finger with my wedding ring on, which is a nice visual mnemonic. Though if anyone comes up with better ones, please tell! Those are just what I’ve come up with so far. FWIW I’m also practicing with the Twinklefingers Fingerspelling app which is good for attempting to get my brain up to speed in those idle ten minutes on the bus...
