  1. Hello! My name is Alex! I'm a 29-year-old man who was born with multiple disabilities. I'm autistic with learning difficulties and hearing impairments. I have worked in a supermarket for seven years, currently taking driving lessons, reading books, drawing, playing Pokemon Trading Card Game, exercising at the gym, watching YouTube videos, loving cartoons, finding morbid topics interesting, and working on beating my depression and insomnia. My reasons for learning BSL are because I need to find a new activity to focus on, and to reach out to the Deaf community to make new friends. I'm not someone who goes out and hangs out with people, but I need to change that to decrease my loneliness.
  2. Not gonna lie, i'm just kinda learning BSL because i'm bored. If i ever meet anyone in the future who's deaf or mute i wanna be able to understand and speak to them.
  3. Hi! My name is George and I've been interested in learning sign language for quite some time but I could never find great sources that taught me everything in the same place so I only learned little bits here and there I'm really looking forward to continuing to learn!
  4. I'm Carlos, I'm currently studying business in Edinburgh. I think there are so many ways of communication like BSL and thanks to this course I will be able to communicate with BSL users. I'm really enjoying this course.
  5. Hello My name is Sam I am a wife and mother of two boys and currently on a personal journey to learn BSL! I struggled in school with learning and as a young adult (mid 20's) discovered I am dyslexic now my boy are old enough to take care of themselves I am pushing my comfort zone and enrolled on the course as I have always been fascinated with sign language so wish me luck 😀
  6. Hi all, my name is Via! I'm picking up BSL during lockdown for a number of reasons: 1) I need something to do and have always wanted to learn BSL 2) It's something else to mention at job interviews and when I get to Uni 3) I want to work using the arts, especially drama and theatre, to help people build their skills and confidence. This is called Applied Theatre or Applied Arts, and I believe that no-one should be excluded from it. Most people use it with children, anyone living with learning difficulties or mental health issues or in prisons, hospitals or homeless shelters, and I want to be able to communicate with as many people I might come across as possible! 4) I think signing is a really beautiful language to watch, and I want to be able to understand it when I see people doing it.
  7. Hi, my name is Jemma and I have always wanted to learn how to sign properly. I have picked up a few bits and bobs over the years but never done it all properly! Now was the perfect time to boost my knowledge and learn this very useful language since I have a bit more time on my hands. I currently work as a pupil support assistant and am looking to eventually become a teacher. I enjoy working with children with additional support needs and use basic makaton to communicate with them at the moment...Another language I would love to learn properly!
  8. Hi I am Mr Walsh, a year six teacher at a 3 form entry school in Accrington, Lancashire. I am currently leading PESSPA across the school but in the future I would like to pursue a career as a SENDCo. I have always been interested in BSL but never had the time or opportunity to complete the course. However, due to the current crisis, I have plenty of time on my hands to up level and develop my skills.
