Hi, I'm learning BSL as I have been loosing my hearing for the past 2 years and am feeling a bit left out of the speaking community I grew up in. I learned to lip read sub consciously and out of necessity, but I still feel left out in crowds and while trying to talk to people while outside with lots of noise. I just want to feel included but I'm scared as none of my friends sign or feel the need to learn! Sorry, didn't want to be a downer! Am having lots of fun learning though!

Hi everyone. My name is Darryl and I work and live in Bangor, Northern Ireland. Although i had a deaf friend during my teenager years, he was a fantastic lip reader, so we rarely had to sign and the signs he did show me, were generally curse signs. Forward to the present day and nearly twenty old years later and i have always wanted to learn BSL and now have the means and financial ability to do so. My background is Mental health and Learning disability services but two years ago, i 'retired' and went into self employment as a Hypnotherapist / Counsellor as well as a Hypnobirthing practitioner . I also teach hypnotherapy in a local university for a national teaching organisation. So by learning BSL, as well as personal achievement, it may also help me in my working life as I have supported couples during pregnancy that have hearing difficulties. Thanks for reading.

Hello, Last year I enjoyed the online course for BSL and since have continued to be fascinated by this beautiful language. At the moment I'm watching Youtube videos of pop songs being signed, to increase my vocabulary - it's a lot of fun! I'm trying to learn "Can't Stop The Feeling" but it is very fast and I'm literally getting my fingers in a twist! I have disabilities myself, though none to do with hearing loss, and therefore understand somewhat of what it is to be one of the worlds minorities. (Though it is hard to compare this to the uniqueness of Deaf culture.) As well as enjoying signing, I want to learn about customs, correct phrases etc, so please correct me if I write anything wrong. Hi, I am Angela. I have always been fascinated by sign language and attended a beginners class several years ago. More recently I have successfully completed a Makaton class to help support children with additional needs at a special school, but don't get to use it much as I am also a full-time student. I love the idea of this website and hope to be a regular member. Thanks for reading.
