  3. Hi everyone Im Alan, Ive been trying to get started on BSL for a while now. What i really need is people to practice with. Im wondering if there are people on this course who would like to start some kind of Zoom or other platform sessions up for us all to practice with each other on. This lockdown jazz does nothing for the simple ability of human interaction on a face to face level, which as we know is obviously a large factor of learning a language that requires a visual aspect. Im with you if your'e nervous about doing any of this in front of other people, but i think if im going to actually learn properly its going to have to happen. I have done the level one course in various places or forms 3 times now and each time i let it slip to the curb because i find it difficult to find people to practice with. Now im not socially shy or lazy but we all get a little apprehensive about putting ourselves out in front of others. Id like to try and find a few people, the more merrier obviously, and get this learning jazz going.
  4. I have been meaning to learn BSL for some time. I love collecting and learning languages and my interest in BSL stems from there. At the same time I work in education and I am trying to broaden my experience and knowledge to enrich my own work. It would be great to meet some other people at a similar stage to me and maybe practise some time!
  5. I'm looking for members who work in a school - I'm keen to speak to people who have worked in education and who have had to work with Deaf/deaf students. I began my second teaching assistant role in April, during lockdown, and am learning BSL online for a deaf student I have been paired with, to support her in her home learning. I feel I am picking up signs fairly fast, and I think this is down to the fact that I have a real interest in learning BSL as a skill, and have done for years, but was too afraid to take the plunge and dip my toes in to a course. Now that I have a reason to do it - I love learning BSL and find it such a fascinating language. I would love to talk to some teachers or teaching assistants about any experience they have had with deaf students before or currently 🙂 please do get in touch! 💖
  6. Hi All, I'm looking for practice partners in the North West or via Skype. I have the level 1 certificate and have completed level 2 training (awaiting results) with a plan to move onto level 3 in the next month should I pass one of the productive exams from the level 2 (passed 201 receptive). Sticking points for me at moment are around the productive side, particularly where being recorded.
  7. Hi! My name is Paige. I am dying to practice signing. Please reply if you would like to practice with me in the BSL Beginners chat room. Happy studying!
  8. Hi! My name is Jonty, I'm 21 and a 2nd year medical student at Edinburgh uni. Like a lot of people on here I am now working from home due to COVID-19, but am keen to keep learning sign language as I was taking classes at uni. I hope that one day I can use what I have learnt to help patients without needing to find an interpreter. I am about halfway through my online intro course but have done lessons before. If anyone wants to practice with just let me know. I'm pretty easy going and have a lot of spare time atm, would be fun!
  9. Hi! I am learning BSL as part of my linguistics postgrad. I am not taking any exams but would love someone to practice with casually. Anyone who is anywhere above level 1 please message me! Anna
  10. Hi all, I live in kent but am happy to work through regional sign differences and practice with anyone who would like to practice. I learnt to sign as a teen about 25 years ago but only recently decided it was about time I signed up to a level one class to gain my qualifications as would like a career change. Am easy going and friendly.
  11. Hi all, I'm doing level 1 now, started January 2018 and about to do 102. I'm deaf (profound now) and teaching hubby after class each week and it's helped a lot already when I'm not wearing my hearing aids. I'm around during the day and as hubby works shifts lots of evenings and would be happy to video practice, Skype?
  12. Hi, I have just completed level one and want to practice before getting stuck into level two! I noticed that there were soooo many beginners who wanted to practice. This website seems to provide a space for video chat now! Shall we get organised??? Maybe on Sunday evenings at 6pm BST we could meet in the online video chat rooms to practice. Anyone up for it? Thanks and hope to sign with you soon! Hope
