  1. Loufi

    Hello

Hi there. I'm Louisa and I'm very new to BSL. My mum taught makaton when I was younger but I didn't pay too much attention or so I thought: I've clearly picked up some bits that link in with BSL. I work in finance for a council working with adults with physical and sensory impairments and awareness is one of our key messages to the communities we work with. So I'm learning to be able to communicate better with the people I work with. I am loving the course so far (only on intro session 4) and I'm excited to explore this resource as well.
  2. Hi, My name is Rachel and I am learning BSL with british-sign.co.uk I am able to hear and have hearing impaired family members. Although none of them use signing to communicate, they rely on hearing aids and lip reading. I would greatly appreciate any assistance whilst I am learning to sign to ensure I am communicating clearly and can't wait to have a conversation with you. I have always wanted to learn BSL and am here to make friends. Please excuse me in my pyjamas for my introductory video! I'm looking forward to meeting you.
  3. Hi! My name is Laura-Kate and I've just started the BSL course. I had tried to start it a couple of months ago but my health got in the way. I am going to set myself a little task each week of completing a unit a week and trying to get onto the fingerspelling leaderboard! I'm really looking forward to teaching myself sign language as I have always wanted to do it for years!
  4. Hi, I'm Bex and I'm a paramedic from the West Midlands. I've wanted to learn sign language for years as I think it would be useful for my job. I did some Makaton with my daughter when she was little and we really enjoyed that - in fact I still use it now if she's not paying attention during swimming lessons!! I live just outside Stourbridge with my partner and our three kids. We also have a dog, a cat and lots of chickens. I've used lockdown as a chance to spend time developing new skills, including learning BSL, Spanish and how to ride a unicycle!
  5. Hi Everyone, My name is Rachel, I am 27 years old and I work in a FE/ HE mix college as a Library Assistant. Im interested in BSL and SSE as we have a fantastic hearing impaired department so have lots of Deaf/deaf students. It would be fantastic to be able to directly communicate with the students without an LSA or interpreter with us. It could come in handy in the wider community too.
  6. I am involved in the hospitality industry and on a number of occasions it would have been helpful to communicate with some of our guests using BSL. It is also a real challenge to learn and with the current lockdown I now have the time to do so!
  7. Hi everyone, a quick hello! I'm Beth, I'm 28 and I'm a primary teaching assistant in a mainstream school, currently WFH. I've wanted to learn BSL ever since I interned at The Chickenshed in Southgate, London a few years ago. I hope to use it with any non-verbal children at my school, as well as teaching it to my classes. I feel it's important to be able to communicate in lots of ways.
  8. Hello! My name is Amy and I live in the North West. I have always wanted to learn sign language (sounds so cliché, but true) from a young age. I actually learnt how to fingerspell the alphabet in primary school and I have never forgotten it. I've said to myself for ages that I must try and find a course and also enquired in work (I'm a receptionist in a GP Surgery) but unfortunately due to lockdown that has all been put on hold. So I thought I would try and find a course in the meantime that I could do that would give me a good head start and foundation if work do find me a course to go on too. I've just completed the third assessment and I am loving it! It's everything I wanted it to be! I'm looking forward to completing the course and starting to put it into practice, it's also going to be an amazing tool to help at work too! It would be great to meet some more of you lovely people who are at the beginning of your journey and chat, maybe even make some friends and practice BSL! Hope to hear back from at least someone! 😂 Stay safe ✌️ Amy
  9. Hi there, My name is Natalie and I'm currently working as a teacher in an Alternative provision school. I have wanted to learn sign language for a long time now and it can be quite hard to find the spare time when you're a teacher! However now I have got the perfect opportunity to tackle all of the challenges that I have wanted to do in isolation 🙃 So here I am! I'm still incredibly new to all of this but would love to get to chat to others and see how they are getting on with the BSL course. 🥳
  10. Hi all, My name is Ilona and I am a trainee teacher trying to learn a new skill whilst in quarantine. Hope you are all well! Thanks, Ilona

  12. Hi guys I briefly began to learn BSL when I was about 12 or 13 and I have always been fascinated to learn more. 10 years later and I am learning BSL as a full-time hobby and, hopefully, I can find something (i.e. a career or voluntary work) where I can begin to use it in day-to-day life. I am really enjoying the course so far and look forward to completing my Level 1 this year.
  13. Hi my name is Ariane I am new to BSL. I live in Manchester I work in a nusery. I wanted to learn BSL for some time. 14. I am Molly, I am a PGCE student studying Primary with Early Years. I taught myself the BSL alphabet whilst studying for my undergraduate degree and now wanted to challenge myself further by learning more. I feel this will be beneficial during my career as a teacher.
  15. Hi my name is Lexi, I've had an interest in sign language for a while but what really drove me to learn it was becoming a mum, I'm currently studying Introduction to British Sign Language online in hopes that I'll be able to learn to communicate with my baby as well as teaching him to sign too. I'm really enjoying my course at the moment and can't wait to learn more!
  16. Hi! My names Aled, I'm from South Wales and I began learning sign language because I think it is something everyone should learn a bit of. I have been putting it of for years but now I have plenty of time to learn!
  17. Hello, I've wanted to learn BSL since attending a lecture about art therapy and deafness. Made me really think about how many people use sign language as their primary form of communication and how many people have no understanding of it all! The horrible situation going on in the world has, at least, blessed me (and lots of others it seems) with the time to learn some valuable skills.
  18. Hi, My name is David, I'm 31 yrs old and an Actor. Growing up i had quite a lot of contact with BSL as my sister is deaf in one ear. She started to learn BSL along with my mum because the fear was that she would lose hearing in the other ear. I picked up bits and pieces from them and learnt some makaton when I worked at a school at a young age. I've started to learn properly online as i wanted to gain the skill and understand more about BSL in general. I'm excited to learn more.
  19. Hello! I'm new here, I'm a student and 16, and really interested in learning! Any tips would be helpful, and here's hoping I can remember something for once!
