Hello,

My name is Afton, I have wanted to learn sign language for a very long time but have never pushed myself to do it. I did a tiny bit back when I helped run youth groups, I would sign songs but that is about as far as my experience stretches. I work as an actor/creative and want to try and make the work that I create more inclusive which would begin with the knowledge of a language that would open up my levels of creating accessibility. I always strive for inclusiveness but I know there is a lot that I do not consider in terms of accessibility for people with disabilities.

BASICALLY

If anyone has any things that they believe should be considered when putting on shows e.g. the use of interpreters, accessibility posted on social media/advertisements etc. then please do let me know and I will work on using this in all of my future work and help to spread this to all other creatives I know.

SIDENOTE if anyone sees this and is a disabled actor working in Scotland or is just interested in theatre working with disabled actors and hasn't already heard of them then check out Birds of Paradise Theatre Company - they do a lot of great work!
