So... This is why am i learning BSL...

I'm learning British Sign Langauge, because i want to make a different in a child's life and be able to help a child or young person. I want a child or young person to feel exactly the same as other children and/ or young people and i want them to know only because they have to use sign as their language they are not different and they are exactly the same as other members of the public. i want them to feel like they are not being ignored or they are not different in any way. i want them to be able to interact and be able to join in with different activities, and being able to undertake this course and being able to actually help someone else gives me such a good feel. I want to learn British Sign Language in order to gain the experience and knowlegde of it and also be able to interact with anyone that may have it. Even if i end up changing my career and becoming something else and not working in a childcare setting, i might work somewere were a customer or another staff member is using British Sign Language and i will be able to have a conversation with them and also help them if they ever need it.

I believe Brtitish Sign language is something everyone should try and undertake and have a go out because you never know you could be working with someone or dealing with someone that uses it on a daily basis. I absolutely love the fact that i have started this course and i'm already practicing my signs with family member and friends over facetime. iI've never felt so prouder of myself for undertaking something like this. Its such a good thing to have and it will also look good on a cv. I'm thinking of taking a makaton course swell, so if someone knows anywhere around North Wales that has a course please let me know

If anyone is not a complete beginner and would like to practice that would be great! Australia is approx 9 hours ahead of London time...so hopefully we can find a suitable time:)

I studied modern languages many years ago and am really interested to learn BSL - it is such an interesting and expressive language. I am also deaf in one ear (since early childhood) so am conscious that my hearing could worsen at some point.

    • I have always been really passionate about languages, and a few years ago I came across Christine Sun Kim Ted "The enchanting music of sign language" and it sparked my curiosity about SL. At that moment I knew nothing about it, I genuinely felt so surprised "how can it be that such a fascinating form of communication is so forgotten by the hearing folks???" A few years later after that (I had been working in improving and mastering my English), and especially since I am moving to Scotland i
