Practise with other beginner BSL users!

Recommended Posts

I haven't made it to any of the online sessions yet as I'm a single parent to a very active 3-year-old who likes to make a lot of noise, but I hope I can make it on the 25th! It will depend on my work as well (I'm self-employed, so when I get the chance, I work myself into the ground in the constant fear that it'll suddenly dry up!), but I really want to make time for a bit of practice with other BSL beginners if I possibly can!

Sorry I was out all Saturday last week and out this afternoon too, but NEXT Saturday going to be in and joining the chat (or watching in awe of some of you folks and humbled by my fingerspelling 😔🤣)!

Hope you’re all keeping well despite the pandemic, and current heatwave (which I’m loving!).

Morning folks. Been out of the picture for a while as been busy with prepping for our new arrival which is at the end of this month. How are the practice sessions going? Are they still running?

Not sure when I will be back but hopefully I'll be back soon. Currently juggling work, health and a preggers wife along with trying to learn Level 1 BSL 😅

Hope to see you all soon :)

Excellent session tonight @Den. Thank you to those that participated. Covered questions structured not covered in the course and basic finger-spelling- in order to get more familiar and much more faster.

Yes indeed - thanks for having me along @Usayd Islam Tariq.  Hoping to join you tomorrow if commitments allow!

    • Hi I'm Jo, I went to level 2 but chickened out of the exams, watch sign of the day daily and play the fingerspelling game. I enjoy BSL and have used it at work sometimes
    • Hello, I hope all is well. My name is Adam. I am myself relatively new to BSL. I am more less know the alphabet and few other signs in relation to level 1. I am looking for someone i can practice with. Can spare a few mins on Saturday please. We can use the chat room and practice for a few mins. I am only slightly free on a Saturday and sometimes on a Sunday even then I can still be busy. Thank you
    • I just completed the BSL introductory course online and thought I would introduce myself, as suggested.  I would like to do more online BSL courses and find a way to practise online with others.
    • Hi Sarge. I see a lot of posts here have no replies so I'd like to buck that trend. I hope you enjoy coming to the UK. I'm autistic like most of my family. My little brother is autistic too and has learning difficulties and we used to sign with him. That's probably where we began. We started with Makaton and then desired to learn a proper language, then learnt SSE, and now I'm learning BSL proper. BSL is such a wonderfully expressive language that says more quicker than many English words could.
    • I've lots of reasons for learning and am interested to meet people who have similar interests to share vocabulary Im a GP and I want to make my practice more inclusive. I'll still need interpreters, of course, but I'd like to be able to make it more accessible for people to communicate their needs without booking on or relying on an app Im a Scout leader and work with another leader who is Deaf and signs. We already sign together and hope to provide more opportunity for young peo
    • Oh, and I'm autistic and play dungeons and dragons, which means I have loads more vocabulary to develop in the field of neurodiversity and fantasy games!
    • Hi all, New to the forum (obviously). I'm a GP in Wales. I learnt for several years a few decades ago before education moved properly away from SSE towards BSL so I am having one to one lessons as my vocabulary is better than my language structure, and then hope to slot back into a group. My motivations are manifold: I am a GP and want to make my practice more inclusive to Deaf people. I am a scout leader and work with another leader who is Deaf and signs (again, he is older like me so
    • I wrote in my previous post introducing myself my reasons for wanting to learn so I'll just repeat what I wrote there: I am learning to help my younger brother express himself better and speak to d/Deaf people in a way they may find more comfortable.
