Practise with other beginner BSL users!

Recommended Posts

I haven't made it to any of the online sessions yet as I'm a single parent to a very active 3-year-old who likes to make a lot of noise, but I hope I can make it on the 25th! It will depend on my work as well (I'm self-employed, so when I get the chance, I work myself into the ground in the constant fear that it'll suddenly dry up!), but I really want to make time for a bit of practice with other BSL beginners if I possibly can!

Sorry I was out all Saturday last week and out this afternoon too, but NEXT Saturday going to be in and joining the chat (or watching in awe of some of you folks and humbled by my fingerspelling 😔🤣)!

Hope you’re all keeping well despite the pandemic, and current heatwave (which I’m loving!).

Excellent session tonight @Den. Thank you to those that participated. Covered questions structured not covered in the course and basic finger-spelling- in order to get more familiar and much more faster.

Hey Everyone! Just so you are all aware. The meetings are still occurring on Saturday 2pm every week.

Even though there is no scheduled session written above, they are still continuing.

Thank you for all those that have made them and continue to do so.

Happy signing

Morning folks. Been out of the picture for a while as been busy with prepping for our new arrival which is at the end of this month. How are the practice sessions going? Are they still running?

Not sure when I will be back but hopefully I'll be back soon. Currently juggling work, health and a preggers wife along with trying to learn Level 1 BSL 😅

Hope to see you all soon :)

    • Hey guys, I am 26 and currently training to be a Autism Behavioural Analyst and decided to learn sign language for children/adults who are either deaf or non verbal.  I live in the UK and have a young son who is 5. I live with him and my fiance and a cat called Freyr.
    • Hello everybody, My name is Gary and the reason I want to learn BSL is I work within the Northumbria Police organisation and communication plays a big part within my role. We have google translate for communication with people who do not understand English but embarrassingly struggle when it comes to the Deaf community.   Thanks  Gary
    • Hi everyone! I'm a postgraduate student and I'm learning BSL because I want to be more inclusive in communicating and meeting new people. I grew up signing Makaton with my family, but it's been a long time and I've forgotten most of it... the sign for 'biscuit' has always stuck with me, and while I think that might be one of the most important signs, I'm looking forward to learning much more!
    • Hi, i recently completed a course in makaton which i use the sign when asking him to do something or going places, like car, or bed, please and thankyou, he can do a couple when he wants too 😁  we also watch a lot of mr tumble and we have a singing with sign dvd from a charity called singing hands which is great, he is only 18months but he loves watching anything with signing on it!
    • How do you teach you grandson to do the signs?
    • Hi I am Emily Lucas and I looking into using design to help teachers and parents teach babies and young children sign language. I would really love to here about you experiences teaching or learning sign language, how were you taught, why did you start learning or teaching you baby to sign? Any information would be helpful.
    • Hi there, Hope you are all enjoying learning to sign! Despite being diagnosed with a hearing impairment at age 13, with likelihood being I've had one since early childhood, I have never been given support to learn sign language as a supportive communication facility. I do wonder if this is because sign language is not something people know, so it wouldn't have been much help. It's why we need to all play a part in learning some sign. We don't know who we are going to meet who uses sign. You
