Hiya, I'm studying level one and have been given some videos to interpret to test my knowledge, however, I really don't understand some of the signs and can't find them in my training. I wondered if anyone could shed any light on them please. I've written out the rest of the sentence, as I understand it, for context and described the signs I don't understand in brackets.

1. Monday my work starts what time? 8. Friday I work (flat hand moves across face)

2. Summer I love why? (fist in circles in front of mouth) day

3. Easter when? spring - march, april (two fingers brush from flat palm to fingers twice)

4. Saturday I eat (both hands in fists, like they're holding frying pan handles) - does it just mean a fry up?

Thank you in advance for any light you can shine on these, it's hard to search for what BSL signs mean, it's not like learning French where you can just Google, "what does escargot mean?"

Hello JoJo,

The only help I can offer you is No. 2 Summer I love why? I think the fist circles the mouth (also seen this with a palm circing the mouth is the sign for  WARM.

    • Hey there!   Newbie to this forum but jumping back into BSL again. I started learning a little at a young age as it was, at the time, the way my younger brother communicated as he was very quiet and shy with words. Growing up, I gave it up but it remains my biggest regret. I think it's amazing and so beneficial to use from day-to-day. I'm currently a shop assistant so I meet all kinds of people daily and on occasions, those Deaf or hard of hearing. It pains me that I am not able to communicate with them as best as I could but here I am, back learning so I can communicate with every one that comes in.    Hope to meet people, make friends and get some tips and thoughts.   Annie

    • I suppose it's a cliche to say that I've always wanted to learn sign language, but never found the time. I also teach scuba diving in my spare time, and I'm hoping to make diving more accessible to those who are deaf or hard of hearing. I'm only a couple of lessons in but with a bit of practice I hope to be able to speak to you (in BSL) soon.
    • I’m Harriet, I’ve recently started learning BSL but I’ve been meaning to do so for years. I’m in uni studying psychology in order to be a therapist and I would love to learn this beautiful language in order to be able to help a wider range of people :)
    • Hi. I am looking to learn sing language. I tried to learn a few months ago, but life got in the way. This will be really useful to me I work with the public. I find that it is taking me a long time to get to grips with some of the signs. I am looking forward to meeting you all

    • Hi, I'm new to BSL and struggling to get things to stick. DO you find song signing a better learning platform than the online tutorials?  Thanks Michael
