Introducing myself

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am Daniela, 35, from Bedfordshire. I learn BSL because my life has been putting me in situations where I could observe sign language users and I always felt my intuition telling me I should learn it because I will need it one day. I have a secret desire to work with SEN children and if I will be successful in that, I could use BSL if needed. I recognised in myself some skills that could make me a good BSL user, hopefully I will be able to keep learning. I do introductory course and I am not sure what further opportunities I will be able to get to learn.  I am open to meet other people to practise with or discuss our journeys.

    • Thank you for sharing this, I happen to work in early years and currently sign using what I have learnt so far in BSL or  Makaton. I can't wait to have a look at this site as I do work with a Deaf baby. ☺️💜
    • Hi everyone,  First timer who has just started to lean BSL. Look forward to using it proficiently to speak to people all over London, although I am a slow learner when it comes to language.  I started as I work in the law enforcement in London, and have found that our translators (on the phone) can help a lot with other spoken languages, but we struggle to communicate with the deaf. I'd like to change that and learn the language to be able to speak to people from those communities. With London being so diverse, I'd like to take a small step in making communication easier.
    • Hi All, I'm learning BSL as I am deaf and I need to learn to more easily communicate. I'm doing this alongside my uni studies, which have at times taken precedence. Amy
    • Use both hand flat hand shape upright facing your body. Move your fingers back and forth. Like you would if you were welcoming someobe. Hope this makes sense
    • I am a retired Scottish Student. Just started BSL2 and would like to practice online particularly with someone in Scotland - this minimises the geographical variations in the Language. I sign with my left hand which is not a problem unless I am using it to eat a YORKIE! bar at the same time!!. I am not Deaf and have speech and have been involved with the Deaf Community for the last couple of years as a volunteer.
    • I have just done my BSL level 1 and am now starting level 2 so would love to have an online practice . Let me know if you are still interested. Prue
