Hello from Stockport

Hello

My name is Graham, and like many, I am trying to learn BSL whilst I'm confined to barracks.

I volunteer for a charity in Stockport called Walthew House, which supports people across the Borough (and beyond) with sensory loss.

You'd normally find my in the Resource Centre on Wednesdays, where we demonstrate and sell all sorts of equipment / aids for the blind, visually impaired, deaf and hard-of-hearing. I usually have to get help from another volunteer or a member of staff if I am trying to help someone who is deaf and uses BSL, so I thought it might be a good idea to try and learn.

The course was brought to my attention by a friend of mine who is blind, which sort of sums up Walthew House really, everyone does their best to help each other, irrespective of the nature / severity of their sensory loss.

Couldn't work out how to post a video, which is lucky for you, as I haven't had a hair cut for 2 Months!

    • Hi My name is Lindsay. I currently work in childcare in a pre school. Having worked with a few non verbal children I have always wanted to learn Sign Language. Being furloughed due to Covid has meant there is no excuse. I’m taking it slowly and re doing the tests regularly. It would be nice to have someone to practice with but I probably need to learn a little bit more first. Lindsay🙂

Every time I am on a rarely see others post or commune with each other or occupy the video chat rooms.  Currently I have hit a wall in my lessons and would like to actually try to practice beginner sign language with another user.
