My name is Jamie and I’ve been a Teacher for 10 ish years and I’m really hoping to make a transition into becoming a Teacher of the Deaf. From an early age my son had communication difficulties and it wasn’t until he was 3 and a bit that we got help from a local ToD who gave him a BCHA and ALD. As a family, and with the help of his Nursery we have learnt some makaton but as he got older we developed this into BSL. He’s starting ‘big’ school in September  so developing his language and his ability to communicate is something we want to Encourage, especially if he doesn’t have his BCHA working. Really looking forward to seeing where this course and life can take me now that I’m learning more about the community and language.

It felt really wrong and horrible at the time, and now I know that the word for it is audism. Since then, I've started a job where

    • Good morning all. Brand new to this and not without concerns. Not deaf or indeed hard or hearing but certainly interested enough to learn. Planning on a career change to Adult Social Care and feel learning BSL would be of benefit. Wish me luck. Thank you.
