Hey 👋,

I Hope everyone is doing ok in these times.

my name is Betty, and I live just outside the Lake District. I decided to sign up to BSL a couple of weeks back because I’ve always wanted to learn sign language, since I learnt the alphabet in brownies. With working in the hospitality industry, i feel like being able to sign will help me interact with guests I meet in my career,  helping them feel more relaxed. So as I have been furloughed, and in lockdown with a lot more time on my hands, I thought it would be a great time to start.

    • Hi all. I'm Steph. I started learning BSL a few years ago but didn't really continue. I've always wanted to learn and work with a Deaf colleague who has taught me some, however I also work in a primary school as an SEN T.A and one of my pupils has cochlear implants. I know some Makaton but he also used BSL so want to be able to learn more to support him better.
    • I've recently had surgery for middle ear implants however this unfortunately has left me with pretty much no hearing at all what little I did have has gone, even with my BTE aids still nothing how much harder will it be to learn sign language. Trying to prepare myself as it could be permanent damage to my hearing from the surgery 😕 struggling to find local face to face classes so looking like online courses. I've done the BSL 10 lessons but this is not going to be enough moving forward.
    • Hello, I decided to learn BSL because I wanted to learn something new and thought it might be useful to be able to chat in this language. I feel communication in any form is the way to get on with other folk, so important at this time when there is so much discention and violence. If folk communicated more others would understand how they feel. Somersal
