Does anyone actually use this Website???

Recommended Posts

Does anyone actually use this website to communicate with each other? Every time I am on a rarely see others post or commune with each other or occupy the video chat rooms.

Currently I have hit a wall in my lessons and would like to actually try to practice beginner sign language with another user. I have learned the majority of the signs from the now completed course, give or take a few. And would like to practice full conversation with other individuals (questions, day to day talk, how to correctly sign this particular sentence, etc).

Thanks for taking the time to read this. And please reach out if interested.

Hi both, i think a good way to drum up conversation on this site is if we welcome new joiners each time they introduce themselves. I love this forum and so glad that I found it. Lets keep things moving :)

Hey, Can I just say you guys are very good with signing well done to you both, that sounds like a good idea Usayd as I haven’t had anyone to practice with.

Hi mate only have my work laptop and we’re not allowed to install zoom onto them. Let me see if I can use my work webex account to set something up. I’ll have to ask permission first so bear with please.

I try come on weekly if I can I've passed my level three. It depends what's going on in my life. Maybe a Facebook group would work better? We may get more people to practice with also. I've just created a group on Facebook called BSL forum if anyone wants to join 😊

I'm a real beginner just starting to learn. I would eventually love some interaction with others wanting to practice. I've only just got to the introductions part of the course and I'm finding that recognizing signs is easier for me than making them.

hey, I am pretty new to this also. I think the only way I will remember all the signing is if I put it into use. I feel like I have forgotten all i've learnt so far!

I am going to keep coming on here and replying to some video etc hopefully that will help 🥴

Hi Naomi,

I have done the beginners course and thought it went well but I seemed to have forgotten loads. so I am now going to re do all the course as well as doing lots more online. So I have now signed up to these chat rooms in hoping I will be able to practise with other beginners ☺️

Maxine, how far have you got with the course so far? I'm very early on. are you finding it harder to make signs or read them?

Hi! I'm new and I just posted a thread in the introductions section. I'm only on the very first lesson of my course, so I'm not really at a level to practice with someone else yet! But hopefully as I progress through the lessons, eventually I'll get good enough to maybe practice through video chat or something. The course recommended me to only do one new lesson a week, though, so it might take a while ...

Good morning all. I can do an hour on Saturday (I told the wife she can play on my Nintendo Switch during this time 😛 ).

What time(s) work best for you? I can also host using my work Webex account so will just need email addresses for all those that would like to join.

    • Hi everyone! My name is Hira and I am 19 years old. I am studying Speech and Language Therapy at University and had my first placement last December. Through volunteering and my placement, I have realised how important it is to know the basics of signing in order to communicate with others. For my career, I want to learn BSL so I can sign certain topics with children who have language difficulties during therapy sessions etc. I also love developing skills and although BSL seems really tricky as
    • I have been interested and fascinated by the Deaf community for a while now. Also, I hate the idea that I wouldn't be able to make friends due to differences in language/ability. I want everyone to feel included and comfortable around me regardless of differences. This is why I am learning BSL.
    • *sighs nervously and waves hand* hello I am Akira. I have been drawn to the Deaf community for a while and decided to act upon it today and no I do not know any Deaf people. I am interested in making friends here though as I am a beginner. hope to hear from you all soon!! *waves bye, excitedly*
    • Hi Myself and my daughter, Kiera (12) decided to begin to learn British Sign Language. It is helpful that we are both learning together as we can continually practice, which we find to be very beneficial to remembering the signs. We would find it very rewarding to be able to speak to other people using sign language in the future. Hayley and Kiera 🙂
    • Hi all: My name is Imogen.  I am a linguist by education and profession.  I learnt Spanish in South America but went through the British Education System with French.  I have spent most of my career as an MFL teacher specialising in all things Latin America and I speak French and Spanish fluently.  Spanish is my strongest foreign language.  I am now mostly a teacher of English for Academic Purposes and ESP English for Specific Purposes to post graduates wanting to study in this country.  I
    • Hi all, I am brushing up on my BSL. I completed the level 1 BSL while at university many many years ago but I failed the exam! Since having children I did tiny talk (baby sign) which made a lot of it come back (although there are some different signs) I remember how much I enjoyed it and have decided to try and again!
    • hello everyone,   I am an educator learning BSL as part of a development into inclusion for deaf students in mainstream education. I have a interest in learning Film making/Media BSL as that is the course level that I teach :) so any suggestions or hints or tips are greatly appreciated :)
