Hi! My name is Julia, and I live in London. I'm learning sign language because I love learning languages, and I also think that the more people that know sign language, the better! I am looking forward to being able to communicate and connect with more people. I've recorded this video and realised I forgot to do the lip pattern, so that's something I should definitely work on!

Hello Julia!

Nice to meet you! Great signing! It's hard to get used to putting it all together isn't it? But really great job so far, I understood it all! As you can see, I forget all my lip pattern too! Haha!  How far along in the course are you? Speak soon? Take care and stay safe :)

    • Hi there, my name is Hamish and I’ve just started learning BSL. I love it, and I’m really engaging with my course. I am a drummer, so having recently watched “Sound of Metal” with Riz Ahmed, I was really moved and started learning BSL. As such, I’m not a member of the Deaf community, but I’m still going to preserver with BSL. I find that I struggle a lot with getting my words out sometimes, so having a physical mode of communication really helps. Thank you! Hamish
    • I've only just started the course and worried that my memory would not be good enough but I've just completed section 3 and surprised myself, got a long way to go though. I agree with the comment that A and U are easy but it's easy to struggle with remembering the others in the middle of trying to sign or read a sign. I found remembering the letter I was my tallest finger (like the letter) made it easier.
    • I have just come across this online practice club https://remark.uk.com/sign-club/ has anyone used it? My BSL is still very basic and I wanted to know what the standard was like before I try it.
    • I am still slow with fingerspelling but generally get the vowels right when signing myself. I find reading someone else's fingerspelling quickly enough much more difficult - I've just started to concentrate on the position of their thumb to get the vowels right.
    • Hi, my name's Ellie and I'm learning BSL because I've always wanted to! I'm very interested in languages (I have studied french for 4 years) and think BSL would be a very valuable language to learn next.
    • Hi everyone! I’m a new learner of BSL and wanted to join the forum. I am a primary school teacher looking for CPD opportunities. I have a child in my class who is Deaf and this child has really inspired me to find out more about the Deaf community and learn BSL for myself. Whilst working with this child and visitors to my classroom, such as an advisory teacher for the Deaf and Speech and Language Therapists, I’ve picked up a few useful signs but I wanted to learn BSL properly. I’m finding it really interesting and enjoyable so far and I cannot wait to complete my BSL online course- it will feel like a real personal and professional achievement for me!☺️
