    BSL Fingerspelling Alphabet

    Fingerspelling is a way of spelling words using hand movements. The fingerspelling manual alphabet is used in sign language to spell out names of people and places for which there is not a sign. Fingerspelling can also be used to spell words for signs that the signer does not know the sign for, or to clarify a sign that is not known by the person reading the signer. Fingerspelling signs are often also incorporated into other BSL signs.

    British Sign Language (BSL) uses the two-handed alphabet however some other sign languages use the one-handed alphabet.

      Hi, my name is Ruth, I am profoundly deaf in one ear and hard of hearing the other.  I am a Specialist Deafblind Worker for the areas, Gloucestershire,  Herefordshire and Worcestershire for the company Deafblind Enablement.   I carry out Specialist Assessments for Deafblind needs, making sure their rights are upheld, they have access to information, their independence is enabled and they have assistance with their mobility.       Hi, I am currently a student that is trying to become a Physical Education teacher. My reason for learning sign language is because I have had students that are D/deaf and I would love to communicate better with them without the use of external help. Also I have some family members that are losing their hearing or lost it so I would also still love to communicate with them as well. I have only just started but very excited to learn and develop my knowledge further

      Hi, I support children in school who have an hearing impairment. Love my job. I have my Level 1 and 2 of BSL and doing my Level 3 (which is hard). I am on here to practice and improve, and of course to meet all of you who are interested.

      I'm involved in HE, both student and tutor, although very matured 😶‍🌫️. My reasons for starting to learn BSL are mainly two. First, I have a colleague who is very proficient and she has been helpful to several people in her use of BSL, I would like to be able to help too. Also, it enhances me in working with people. I have only just begun, but sometime soon  it'd be good to practice. I shall come back and check if anyone else wants to practice when I've progressed further.
