  1. I am a “neuro-spicy” 50-something and was selectively mute in my teens. I see now how BSL would have helped me communicate when I was unable to talk. As I imagine many new forum folk have been, I was inspired by Rose Arlington-Ellis’s recent programme Old Hands, New Tricks into finally signing up to a basic BSL course (which I am thoroughly enjoying). I hope to progress onto at least the next level in 2025.
  2. We all have a right to be understood and I see BSL as being a far more useful second language than any currently taught in schools. I love words, patterns, and real conversations so the opportunity, with even a basic level of BSL, to communicate with someone from the Deaf community seems a no brainer. I taught myself the finger alphabet as a teenager; now, as a 50-something, I want to learn more!
