Hi, my name is Vicki and I am 40 years old and live in England.

I have wanted to learn sign language for as far back as I remember. I have obtained beginners information on numerous occasions but I have always found it hard to get started.

When I was younger ( a lot younger) I would have this recurring dream about a young boy needing help, but he was signing and no-one around knew what he was saying. I am hoping this doesn't present as Audism, as that is the last thing I want, but in my dream, and when I woke, i just wish I could have helped more in some way.

I had a Deaf Aunty and Uncle through my mums previous marriage but we always communicated with our lips and again I wish I knew more.

I am currently out of work due to being in a fire which should have killed me, but some how I am still here and I am re-evaluating my life and what I want from it and trying to do things I have always wanted to do. This is one of them. I am worried I wont be very good at it, as I worry I am too old to learn a new language, but all I can do is try.

Thank you and look forward to learning with you all.

Take care

Vicki

    • Hi  everyone, this is my first post on the forum.  I work as part of the Front of House Team in a theatre and I am interested in learning some sign language to be able to communicate more easily with the many members of the deaf community who come to the theatre. So far I am doing ok in the comfort of my own home but under pressure I get flustered.  Does anyone else find the same problem? I think a lot is down to constant repetition and practice.
    • Hello everyone 🙂 I'm Layne. I am about to take my BSL202 and BSL203 at the start of next week 😬 I luckily passed BSL201 last week 😌 I am based in India so it is tricky to find people to practice with. If anyone is up super early in the UK and looking for someone to converse with I am 5.5 hours ahead so will be around! Thank you 🙏
