Hello everyone,

My name is Jess and I am a Primary School Teacher. In my job, I often come across children with additional needs and I'm interested to learn BSL so that I can communicate better with children who suffer from hearing loss.

I am also a languages teacher and figured that I have invested time in learning a foreign language so why not therefore invest time in learning a language as valuable as BSL?

I am a little apprehensive after signing in to my new course BSL Levels one and two (which thankfully I have one year to complete) however, I am also very excited to begin a new journey and learn such an important skill.  I am a complete beginner!

If you have any advice or time to practise/ things to share with me, I would be immensely grateful.

Thanks and best wishes to you all.

Jess.

Hello Jess, I’m Peter at 87 profoundly deaf, been attempting to learn BSL for three years, watching videos, getting nowhere! However, this year I was introduced to www.signaturelearinghub.co.uk! Now galloping ahead! Jess, take a look at www.signaturelearinghub.co.uk. I took out a one year's subscription! The study elements are great, the dictionary comprehensive! I also use for addition vocabulary, YouTube, which has lots of free BSL learning material by different BSL instructors! Wishing good progress!   Peter

    • Hi there! I'm Laila and I've just started a beginners course in BSL. I work in a nursery as a senco and one to one currently but hoping to move on to a different job role in a special school or a school setting. I've been fascinated by BSL for years now and I've finally decided to take the leap and start a course so here we are! I am already level 1, 2, 3 and soon to be level 4 trained in makaton in the new year but ive always loved watching people use BSL and even though I'm not deaf i still plan on signing as i speak to myself to ensure i dont forget any of it and i just find it fun to do anyway! I am a little suspicious of my hearing anyway as it isnt the best and i do have moments where i lose hearing in one of my ears for a few minutes at a time the longest being an hour and sometimes in both ears together so I'm looking into that but im so excited to finally be a BSL user and join this community
