I have just started learning BSL. I struggle big time with my hearing, I have hearing aids but they don't help much. Any background noise makes it impossible for me to hold a conversation. Even in quiet situations, most of the time I really struggle to understand what people are saying and miss  big chunks of a conversation which makes me feel very isolated. My family are learning BSL with me so hopefully we can have some sort of conversation in locations such as restaurants.
