Hi! My name is Matthew, I am a Belgian student of English literature and linguistics. I have always had an interest in languages, and have wanted to learn a sign language for quite some time. Since I primarily use English in both my private and professional life, I decided to prioritise BSL for now. I myself am not Deaf but I do experience trouble with auditory processing, and I think accessibility in communication is very important and yet undervalued. I look forward to learning more of BSL and the Deaf community.

Hello Mathew! My name is Chris, I am on a similar journey, I am also not Deaf, however I do have mild hearing loss and tinnitus. I am studying BSL and Deaf Studies at the University of Lancashire. I am also working my way through the beginner course at British-Sign.co.uk

wish you all the best on your journey, Chris.

Welcome to the forum, Matthew! It's great that you're learning BSL, especially if you have trouble with auditory processing. I'm diagnosed with APD (Auditory Processing Disorder) myself, which isn't a very-well known condition, so you're right in thinking about accessibility in communication being very important and yet undervalued. How have you found learning BSL so far? :)

    • Hi I am new and just started learning. I need some guidance about the centres in London where I can meet up with people who are interested in learning and can do some practice. Many thanks and excuse for my language
    • Hi  everyone, this is my first post on the forum.  I work as part of the Front of House Team in a theatre and I am interested in learning some sign language to be able to communicate more easily with the many members of the deaf community who come to the theatre. So far I am doing ok in the comfort of my own home but under pressure I get flustered.  Does anyone else find the same problem? I think a lot is down to constant repetition and practice.
    • Hello everyone 🙂 I'm Layne. I am about to take my BSL202 and BSL203 at the start of next week 😬 I luckily passed BSL201 last week 😌 I am based in India so it is tricky to find people to practice with. If anyone is up super early in the UK and looking for someone to converse with I am 5.5 hours ahead so will be around! Thank you 🙏
