Hi, my name is Triceta. I am 30 years old. I am Deaf, I lost my hearing in 2023, but I have been signing for 13 years, I took ASL in highschool and just continued signing. I immersed myself in the deaf community, wanting to learn more and to practice the skills I had. Fast forward to 2020, I started having double ear infections and kept complaining of the pain, but nothing was ever done. By the time I saw a doctor who would listen to me and consulted with an ENT specialist, my hearing had already diminished in both ears.

Hi Triceta,

I am 65 and hard of hearing.  I wear a hearing aid in one ear and am profoundly deaf in the other.  Would you be interested in video chatting with me (preferably voice off)?  I have some conversational skills in ASL and the only way I will improve is learning from others.   Thank you.

    • Great.  I work weekdays until 4 pm CST so anytime after 5 works for me.  Just give me a shout.  Looking forward to it!  Thank you
    • Yes I'd love to, I won't be able to do it today. But we can plan on it for this week.

    • Hi everyone, I am currently looking for someone who knows American Sign Language (ASL) and would be willing to help with my bachelor’s thesis. As part of my research, I am investigating whether the translation tool Rylo (https://rylo.com/sign/translate/) can preserve humour when translating written English wordplay into ASL. For this, I have a small set of short (15-60 sec) ASL videos generated by the tool. Participants would be asked to watch the videos and answer five short questions per video about the translation, mainly focusing on whether the humour and meaning are preserved. You do not have to review all videos; any amount of help would already be very valuable. If you know ASL, or if you know someone who might be interested in helping, please feel free to contact me via here or on [email protected] Thank you in advance!
