Hello! My name is Heather and I am interested in ASl because of my Deaf/hard of hearing family. My husband and two of our four children are D/HH. My husband has a moderate to severe hearing loss, our oldest son, 24-years-old has a mild to moderate hearing loss and our youngest son, 9-years-old has a moderate to severe hearing loss and speech issues. Their hearing loss is a congenital progressive sensorineural hearing loss. My husband and oldest son have lost more of their residual hearing fairly slowly over time but our youngest has lost his at a faster rate and he relies on sign to communicate because of his hearing loss and speech. He has an educational interpreter in school who is amazing! He has picked up on sign quickly but we have struggled to learn. With our youngest identifying with the amazing Deaf community, the fact that he is losing his residual hearing quickly and his hearing aids are not effective, and the need to communicate with him in sign daily I feel anxious to learn and become fluent. I have loved the Deaf community members that we have met and really want to be able to communicate with others. I look forward to learning and communicating on here!

    • Hi everyone! I'm a hearing husband with a deaf wife, and I'm a retired electrician and safety instructor. I know some sign language, but I'm hoping this site will help me improve my skills and support others in our local fire department. Although there aren't many deaf people in my community, I have many deaf friends from different places. We always have a great time together, and they're wonderfully patient while teaching me new signs! I'm excited to be here, learn more, and connect with everyone. Looking forward to being part of the community! geometry dash
    • My name is Leah and I started learning ASL to help people communicate where there are language barriers. For instance: I just started volunteering at a nature center and I hope that one day I'll be able to help someone connect there. I'm also applying for a job at my local YMCA for the Member Services desk. It would be great to help the deaf and hard of hearing community connect there also. I'm very excited about learning ASL. I love helping people. 😊
    • I am taking my first class of ASL at a local community college.   I am hearing.  The teacher is Deaf and fantastic.   The language is beautiful.   I am learning because I have 3 neuro-divergent kids and I think this would be a good way to connect with them.
    • However, it tends to cover all aspects of the business curriculum in much greater depth. You get a formal degree qualification after spending a significant amount of time. Normally, it is more suitable for people seeking a comprehensive business education rather than for those focusing on and sharpening a single skill.
