Hi, I'm hearing and I'm learning BSL as hearing difficulties are prevalent in my family with both hearing loss and auditory processing disorder. I find it difficult to hear in noisy and complex environments and I will struggle to communicate. Also when distressed I become unable to talk but would still like to communicate. Is here an acceptable sign for "I'm mute" or "I can't talk"? My current research has only brought up that the word "mute" can be derogatory and has been used to hurt the deaf community.
