As a child, I had 'glue ear' for the first 4 years of my life that was not diagnosed/picked-up (lived abroad and medical support wasn't as good as here).
Once I had my tonsils and grommets done, it's been a lot better.
Having accepted that I am getting older and that my hearing is deteriorating naturally, I am anticipating that there may come a time when I may struggle again.
Medical support and technology have improved massively since I came to the UK 57 years ago so I may never need it but you never know.
Also, helping to look after elderly relatives and friends has shown me how difficult and lonely it can be for them and how frustrating it can be for those providing care to communicate with them as you can only shout and gesticulate so much before giving up.
