  1. I’m learning for the joy of learning right now. I am really enjoying the British Sign Introductory modules and I’m teaching my children, when I can, as I go along (bath time is a hit for learning new signs!). I can highly recommend the Rose Ayling-Ellis Signs for Change documentary on the BBC - really eye-opening, informative and enjoyable.
  2. Hello! I’m Elly, a full-time mum to 3 kids and 2 cats, based in Oxford. I’m new to BSL although I have been interested in learning since I learnt the finger spelling alphabet and some basic signs as a Brownie 30-odd years ago. I have used some home singing/makaton/English supportive signing with each of my children (and still now with my youngest) - signing is absolutely amazing for encouraging pre-verbal communication and giving small children the power to express themselves. A friend of mine said she was going to learn BSL and she reignited that spark in me. I have signed up to the British Sign Introductory course and if that goes well I’m hoping to do an in-person BSL level 1 course with my friend here in Oxford. I think sign language is beautifully expressive. I think it has value for everyone not just those who are Deaf/deaf. Any other Oxford-based people here interested in BSL?
