Hello! I am Lizzie. I am doing the online BSL course as part of my CPD during lockdown. I have previous experience with signing: I use makaton on a daily basis as I work in a school doing 1-1 support, and I have some experience of using BSL, an amalgamation of what I have taught myself and know from makaton. I get to use BSL to communicate as the school I work at has Hearing Impaired specialist provision, so we have a student and staff who's first language is BSL, and most staff in school sign to some degree. I have always found BSL interesting, I remember learning the fingerspelling alphabet from my brownie guide handbook! Over the years I have picked up bits here and there, and made an effort to learn more about the deaf community. I wish I had more spare time so that I could find opportunities to practise using BSL.
