Eve Baker

Hello, my name is Eve Baker and I am 26 years old. I am a Reception Teacher and I absolutely love my job! I have been a fully qualified teacher coming up to 4 years now. I haven't come across any pupils in my class as of yet who use BSL, however, a child has recently started in the Nursery class who is profoundly deaf - and I feel this could be a good opportunity to practice all this learning with her (especially as I could get her in my class next year!). I have always been really interested in learning BSL but due to work commitments I have never found the time to do it, so I making the most of this lock down period and taking a huge positive from it by learning something new and fun!

I am learning BSL as it is something I have ALWAYS wanted to learn but during my training and then becoming a full time teacher I never found the time to do it. I have taken this opportunity whilst being at home(due to current situations), and using my time very wisely (alongside sending home learning home) to learn BSL. Later on in my career I do hope to become a Speech Therapist (many, many years from now) so I feel that this is a good first step into that career path. I am thoroughly enjoying learning this course and I cant wait to see all the new things I will know by the end! :D
