In my past year of placement at a Sure Start setting, I have encountered many non-verbal children that have difficulties in communicating how they feel, and become frustrated and agitated when they cannot voice their emotions. There is one other teacher that is aware of basic BSL, who tries to communicate, but it is difficult with around five non-verbal children in the class. I have a particular interest in working in schools for children with special needs and disabilities, so the BSL course will come in handy both now, and in the future. I am quite young, and feel that this is the perfect time to learn, so that I can make education and development just a little bit easier for even one child.
