Whenever a family comes on to the ward where I teach in my local hospital & the patient or their parents have difficulty hearing I feel that maybe the staff don’t know how to help and so communication becomes a problem. If one of us can sign then it means that the family won’t need an interpreter to support them and the patient will feel more at ease during their time with us.

I’m Sarah & I teach in my local hospital where we have a few regular patients who either have hearing loss themselves or their family members do. They have to bring interpreters with them so I thought it would help if someone on the ward could help out. I’m a languages teacher by training so am always keen to add more & lockdown is a perfect chance to start BSL.
