My name is Kaz Davies. I co-own and run a recording studio in Bristol, where I live. I have 3 children (eldest has moved out), a cat and a dog.

I am also a volunteer at The Hive in Bristol. I am bilingual and I have always found languages very interesting.

I started teaching myself BSL with videos online around April 2020. Though I have picked up bits of ASL & BSL when I was younger from friends, film and tv.

I finally registered for a BSL course this month and I am enjoying it very much! 

I have already tried some with my sister-in-law who has learning difficulties and she and her carer were very encouraging!

My husband also has otosclerosis in his family. He has the early signs and I believe that it is the right time to begin learning BSL for all of us in the family. Especially as I am also quite a slow learner but so far, so good!

I wish all the other newbies good luck with their course and assessments!

Hello. My name is Wiktoria, I come from Poland. Polish my native language. I currently go to university and study Sport and Exercise Science.

 

I always wanted to learn sign but didn’t know where to start. I have been learning for about 3 weeks now, and I am really enjoying it 😁 I actually found out about online British sign language courses through a girl (I cannot remember her name) on TikTok mentioning them. 
 

I have found that I am struggling signing without saying the words out loud. Does anyone else have this? Will this go away with more practice?

      Hi I have started to learn BSL as a good friend of mine is deaf and I also want to be more inclusive in both my working setting and in my role in Scouts (Leader for 18 years). It is not east to learn at my age but I am going to give it my best and with Wilfred's help I am sure I can pick it up.

      I want to learn sign language to develop a new skill that improves inclusivity in the UK. I remember learning the sign alphabet in school and I wish I continued to pursue it, so I am making the choice now to expand my knowledge on sign language and hopefully connect with people who use sign in the future.

      Hello my name is Megan. Ive decided to learn because it helps me to communicate when its too hard for me to speak. At times I get overwhelmed and struggle to use my voice. It helps my partner too, when we are trying to communicate when im having dissociative episodes and seizures etc.

      I have had an interest in learning BSL because I attended a recent event but was not able to communicate with someone who could sign only. As he could lip read we did communicate but I wanted to learn BSL to pay forward

      Hello, I am learning sign language due to my daughter being partially deaf at birth.  I thought it would be good for me to learn it and hopefully incorporate into teaching her to talk so she will always have that option to fall back on.
