I have recently become an ECA and whilst sat by a river on standby with my friend one day he told me he had signed up for a BSL course. I thought you know what that sounds like a good idea I will do the same. So I did. A week later my friend died unexpectedly and it was the worst time in my life. I miss him so much but I thought I would still do this course anyway, we were going to use it to sign to each other during cardiac arrests as we have to wear Level 3 PPE at the moment which makes it very hard for us to hear each other. I would like to thank my friend for motivating me to become better, without him I wouldn't have even signed up to this course. He is probably jealous that I am getting to learn all of this! Love ya mate x

I noticed the opportunity at University to learn, and it's something I've always wanted to do but never got around to. I think it's something most people should attempt to learn so they can help others if they are ever in a situation where it is needed.

    • Thank you! I'll be enrolling in the online course offered on British Sign. I've not done it yet as I'm currently enrolled in a French course which finishes in 3 weeks. Then, when I'm back in the UK, I'll see how I can step up my learning. I guess there's no substitute for real-life, real-time human practice. Can't wait to get stuck in.
