Hi, We are just inquiring about the different BSL courses that are available. We work in a school and our intentions are to create a BSL after school club. We would like to know, when purchasing any courses, whether these are purchased individually and can only be used for one person with one certificate given at the end, or whether one course can be purchased and used for a group of 5 people (making sure all attending have a certificate at the end.) We have seen the BSL course for groups but because we are under 6 people, we are unable to sign up for that particular course.Β

Any advice would be brilliant. Thank you in advance for your time.Β

Why BSL in Schools Matters for Children:

  • 🧠 Boosts Communication Skills – Learning BSL helps children communicate with deaf peers and promotes inclusivity.

  • 🀝 Fosters Empathy & Inclusion – Teaching BSL encourages understanding and respect for the Deaf community.

  • 🏫 Supports Language Development – BSL can aid in learning structure, expression, and even improve literacy.

  • 🎨 Engaging & Fun – Many children enjoy learning BSL through songs, stories, and gamesβ€”it’s interactive and visual.

  • πŸ“š Curriculum Integration – Some UK schools now include BSL in the curriculum or offer it as an extracurricular activity.

    • My interest came from BSL module in uni (student paramedic) and I wanted to build on my knowledge so that I would be able to communicate with patients in the future. I also love chatting to strangers and I want to be able to do that with people who sign to!!Β
    • I work in commercial aviation as Senior Cabin Crew. Β  I wanted to learn Sign Language as we carry an increasing number of persons who identify as deaf, and I think it is an invaluable skill to have from a communication point of view. Although we have ASL and BSL capabilities via electronic QR codes on board, the ability to provide that personal and human interaction is equally important.Β
    • I work in research and want to learn BSL to enable more inclusivity within this field. I work with many different communities and find that the deaf community is too often overlooked. I want to address this and hopefully learn a lot myself and maybe gain some new friends. Β
