I’m new to BSL! Hello to all

Recommended Posts

Hello! My Name is Lizzie Hale and I have been deaf in my right ear since I was about five. I have only recently started learning BSL because there is a slight chance that I may go deaf in my right ear sometime in the future!

Hello Lizzie,

Welcome!  My dad is deaf in one ear and we joke with him that it changes ear depending on what suits him best..

I hope you hearing doesn't deteriorate and good luck with the learning.

Are you learning online or going to a college?

Monty

    • I don't think there is a sign for Olive, you can finger spell it if you need to, but I've just searched it up in the BSL dictionary and there isn't one.   Very sorry x
    • The sign for Alpaca is a bit like that, except you put your elbow ontop of your other arm and Do that sign, but with no movement.   Video here: https://youtu.be/G-txp8YBpCI Hope this helps! x
    • Ty! Much appreciated! Could Platinum maybe be the same as Gold and Silver, but with a P? x
    • The sign for Wales is to hold up your three middle fingers bent slightly forward (like a claw), and move your hand straight downwards. Video here:  https://www.signbsl.com/sign/wales   The sign for Rose is the same as 'flower' but you use the lip-pattern (mouthing the word) rose, the sign is put your finger and thumb together and touch either side under your nose, like smelling a flower. Video here:  https://www.signbsl.com/sign/rose     The sign for diamond is your non-dominant hand held flat, palm down (As if you were going to show someone your ring) and your dominant hand on top of that hand, fingers together and then open and close them quickly, as if to show sparkling of a diamond. Video here: https://www.signbsl.com/sign/diamond   There isn't an actual sign for platinum you would fingerspell p-l-a-t-i-n-u-m. You could use the sign for metal with the lip-pattern platinum, the sign for metal is your index finger taps your chin twice. Video (for metal) here: https://www.signbsl.com/sign/metal   Hope this helps
    • I don't think there is one, you would finger spell c-y-a-n, you could use the sign for blue, that would be the closest actual sign. You could combine fingerspelling followed by the sign for blue straight after, that would probably be the clearest way to sign it with an actual sign.
    • My friend Dafid (Who is deaf)'s favourite colour is Cyan but doesn't know how to sign it, I thought I'd surprise him by finding out! Please let me know what it is, thanks x -Kayla x
