We all have a right to be understood and I see BSL as being a far more useful second language than any currently taught in schools. I love words, patterns, and real conversations so the opportunity, with even a basic level of BSL,  to communicate with someone from the Deaf community seems a no brainer. I taught myself the finger alphabet as a teenager; now, as a 50-something, I want to learn more!
