I'm learning BSL to teach myself about new and useful skills, and I can transfer this to my working life where people I interact with don't always use verbal communication. I'm also slightly hard of hearing myself and sometimes it takes me a few seconds to understand what people have said to me, so learning BSL will help my communication. My landlord also knows the finger-spelling alphabet, so I can practice with him!

I work in a college supporting additional needs students, some of whom have hearing impairments or who are d(D)eaf. They come to lectures with interpreters, but  I want to be able to communicate directly with them more easily in future years.
