I'm a senior at Suffolk University majoring in history.  I've just accepted a position at Boston College's history MA program.  I hope to specialize in Cold War history, and to be a history professor some day.  I came out as transgender my senior year of high school, and began living as a woman after graduating in 2011.

Two years ago I saw the film Shape of a Voice.  As a trans woman, I identified with the main character's feeling of loneliness.  I started learning ASL to help create a society that includes everyone, not just hearing people.  Perhaps I'll get a professorship at a deaf university some day.

I've often gone to lengths to educate others about the transgender community, and am willing to answer any questions you may have.  Feel free to message me.

Hi Claire! Good for you! So so brave and just...really I think that what you are doing is amazing. If you want to practice ASL I would love to do that. I really need the practice. I have not used sign for 15 years and Im just getting back into it and I want to take and then pass (of course!) The interpreter test! Please let me know if you are interested in practicing via video.

    • Hi everyone, My name is Cassandra Nesbitt, and I just started learning ASL. It was one of my goals for this year, and my career goal is to work in Social Work or Youth Development. I know I will be meeting diverse people. Plus, I have fallen in love with learning languages, and learning ASL is so fun and easy once you have the right mindset. In addition, I joined this community in hope to make new friends and get more practice with signing. I look forward to interacting with all of you.
