Why I chose to learn British Sign Language

Will i was in lock down I decided to learn British sign language because my Mum is deaf in one ear and she knows sign language so I can communicate with her that way and i thought it would be a cool thing to learn and then i can practice it with my Mum and she can see if  I do it right. Also Mum plays for England Deaf and some of her team mates are fully deaf and i can communicate with them which would be fun because i would have known what they have say'd and what they are saying.

    • My name is Jacqui and I live in Leeds, West Yorkshire.  I currently work for the NHS, and we receive patients who are deaf or have significant hearing problems. This motivated me to learn sign language so that I could communicate with patients better and on a more personal level rather than using a system called the Language Line. At present, I am learning BSL, Introducing British Sign Language. The course is going very well, and I am enjoying studying very much.

We also are now keen to learn sign language. I am very glad to join this forum.
    • Hello, my name is Vikki. I'm 34 years old, I have 5 small children and I've signed up to this to learn sign language. I believe everyone should be taught sign language so that anyone that is deaf or has any kind of hearing loss is able to communicate. Hearing loss can happen to anyone at any time so I believe it should be taught to everyone to help ensure we're heading in the right direction for being inclusive.
