Why am I learning BSL?

Recommended Posts

It's been something I've wanted to learn for a while now, but previously to my work being temporarily shut due to the country being put in lockdown, I didn't feel I had the time to dedicate to fully completing a course. As that was no longer the case after everything happened, the opportunity presented itself to me perfectly so I knew I had to do it. Not only did I want to learn for myself because I'm constantly trying to develop new skills, but I also knew it was something which would help me in my job as I had come across occasions where I'd been unable to communicate with deaf customers. This became a bit frustrating for me, especially because if I had the chance I'd be able to learn online and easily rectify it. Learning BSL also means I'll be able to follow at least some of what the interpreters are doing during our signed performances, which make the joy of theatre more accessible to everyone. I definitely feel a huge sense of achievement by learning and I'm very grateful for having been able to do so!
