Hello, My name is Tiger-Lily and I have decided to learn BSL as I think it's a fantastic skill to have and it allows me to open up to others who use sign language to communicate. I work in a Pre-school/Nursery setting where I have a child in my key group who is hearing but has deaf parents. Although the child can hear, she mainly lip reads and uses some basic signs to communicate her needs. As a complete beginner I thought it was necessary to complete a course on BSL to support this child more and any other children who may need this input from myself in the future. I also wanted to learn BSL to enable myself to have stronger and more efficient communication with the child's parents instead of using a hand-over book as I want to create a stronger relationship with them and it would be more inclusive. I am really enjoying learning this new skill, and have already been able to use a few of the signs that I have learnt when I'm at work and I can already see the impact it's having on the child and her parents which really warms my heart.

      Hi my name is Gill and I've just completed lesson 3.  I started learning BSL a number of years ago and went to a Deaf Club in Chorley, Lancashire.  But sadly had to let it go when we moved.  Looking forward to learning again x

      Hi, I have joined BSL as I am retiring very soon from Special needs teaching. I have used Makaton signing in my classroom for many years but would like to be able to sign to more people. I also think it will be good for stimulating my brain and I have already become very competitive with myself playing the spelling game!!

      Ive just started to learn how to use BSL and I managed to use fingerspelling to get a message to someone when I wasn't able to speak to them. I am so Glad I started this course I think that it will really help me with my career path in the future.

      Hi to all BSL learners, I have decided to learn BSL because as part of my role in healthcare I communicate with a variety of patients and think it will be a good skill to have.  Also my mother and mother-in-law is starting to have problem with their hearing...       My name is Julia. I am learning BSL because I am losing my hearing.  I have no hearing in my left ear now due to an acoustic neuroma and I have inherited otosclerosis from my mother's side of the family and I now have very little hearing in my right ear.  I also attend a lipreading class. I did start to learn BSL a few years ago but did not persevere! I am restarting my journey with it and must make sure that I practice, practice, practice!!
